As you are probably aware, hurricane season began on June 1 and runs through November 30th. The 2016 Atlantic hurricane season forecast released earlier this year called for the number of named storms and hurricanes to be near historical averages. Hurricane Alex, a rare January hurricane that struck the Azores a few months back was proof that this was going to be an active season. A total of 12 named storms, five hurricanes and two major hurricanes are expected this season, according to a forecast prepared by CSU. , which is headed by Dr. Phil Klotzbach in consultation with long-time hurricane expert Dr. William Gray.

2016 Atlantic Hurricane Names List

Every year, the US Hurricane Names List is published. If you remember, there was some controversy regarding the names a few years back. Since then, the list has become more diverse. This got us thinking, what if the good people of Jacksonville and Duval County were given the chance to name the storms? We took a stab at it and put some of our favorites below.
